UPDATE: Now with funk Telecaster and nonsense lyrics

I pulled together a few TR-909 drum samples in my DAW and created a nice 4-bar loop with a kick, snare and hi-hat. Felt like it needed a bit more so rolled in a guitar part I'd transcribed into the DAW and gave it a sweeping Prophet keyboard sound, then tapped along a slap bass line, which I quantized to sync it better to the beat. Once that was in a bit of stereo widening was needed...but still something missing a melody, a drop, a different keyboard, a harmony to the melody and a finish.

Before I knew it, I had a track that has ended up being the bastard child of a John Foxx era Ultravox instrumental outtake and something Jean-Michel Jarre wouldn't have touched with a barge pole and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark wouldn't have dreamed of putting out as a throwaway B-side.

Be interested to know what you think...very much a deviation from the norm for me.

lyrics

La Gaffe de Péniche

Sacred heart, black eyed, switchblade cutoff, no surprise
Keep them down, where they're hiding round and round the bend, yeah
Lock on, when you're long gone, wasted

Confined to waiting in the waiting room again
Can't find me waiting for the wasted friend again
Not in this rain

Complex. Complicated. Comforting. Completely.

Won't touch you when you take the blame
Another day round the bend, again and again
My take on this isn't what you need
Release the kiss
